What to consider before Your travel within the US

It’s been a roller coaster 2020. Came 2021, and most countries have almost done with the vaccination program. The usual (pre Covid) may not be the same and we may add some extra steps to safely travel during Covid 19.

As of September 19, 2021, US has fully vaccinated 55.3% of the population. You can now visit friends or family, travel for leisure or for business around the US and here are the things you should consider before travel within the US.

1. How to safely travel during Covid 19 within US?

Be cautious on the level of Covid-19 risk you may encounter at your destination. It is advisable to know what you need to prepare and expect before you travel. These are the following health organization websites you need to visit before your travel during Covid 19.

2. Know when you can use Travel Insurance on your travel

Unvaccinated or Fully Vaccinated, you may want to equip yourself with Travel Insurance before leaving. Not all, but some travel insurances have coverage for unexpected Covid-19 expenses even abroad. However, policies will require a positive RT PCR test result.

States and other countries may require quarantining upon arrival and this is not covered by the insurance unless otherwise you tested positive.

Travel delay coverage – When you have to extend your quarantine time, your travel insurance can extend your benefits up to 7 days.  It covers your accommodation and meals during your quarantine.

Travel Interruption Coverage – In any case you test positive and you miss your trip, your can reimburse from your travel insurance coverage.

3. Pack your Covid 19 essentials

The ‘usual normal travel’ has been gone since the pandemic occurred. Whether you are traveling domestically or internationally, you should exert extra effort in packing your pandemic essentials. The Covid 19 essentials you will need for your travel within the US are:

  • Prepare your vaccine certificate with you all the time. Most airlines, hotels and attractions may require one.
  • Prepare a Covid-19 Negative Result as needed.
  • Always have clean extra face masks on your carry-on travel bag.
  • Sometimes there’s no nearest washroom to wash hands, compact sanitizing wipes and alcohol are helpful to keep clean hands.

Pandemic essentials you will need are mask, extra mask, negative RT PCR result, hand sanitizer and wipes for cleaning surface. Always (though not required) keep your distance in crowded and indoor areas.

Where Americans can travel Within The US right now

1. New York

Wanting to have a city break? Times Square or Broadway, is just one of the most visited tourist attractions in New York.

Good news! The Big Apple as of June 25, 2021, the state of New York’s Travel Advisory is no longer in effect. Travelers are no longer required to submit traveler health forms and should continue to follow all CDC travel requirements.

New York follows the US Travel Rules and does not allow entry from countries with most number of Covid-19 virus.

2. Disneyland California

Looking for the best place to travel during Covid 19? Children and children at heart will be very happy with Disneyland’s reopening. Yes, you are welcome to experience and enjoy the Avengers Campus that is newly opened for the next generation of Super Heroes!

Disneyland California recommends that all visitors get fully vaccinated or present a negative COVID-19 test prior to entering the resort. While on the other hand, unvaccinated guests must wear face mask indoors. All guests need to present a valid ticket for the same day and same park you want to visit. Some attractions may have limited capacity or are unavailable.

3. Puerto Rico

Eyeing for a palm beach, Carribean travel destination like Puerto Rico? Well, you don’t need to wait until after the pandemic. You can enjoy the open beaches that the country offers.

Puerto Rico allows entry for fully vaccinated travelers. You are required to upload your official Vaccination Card to Declaration Portal.

Non vaccinated visitors are required to present a valid PCR molecular or antigen COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of arrival and must be uploaded to 48 hours before arrival or you will be charge a $300 fine. If the result is Negative, the quarantine will be lifted however, if the result is Positive, you will be required to isolate and follow local rules and regulations.

4. Alaska

Ready to travel and experience the Alaska weather but not yet vaccinated? No worries! Alaska government offers vaccine for all citizens or visitors. You can be vaccinated upon arrival at a participating airport or any community vaccine clinic.

Fully Vaccinated visitors are not required to get tested nor isolated upon arrival. However, unvaccinated visitors will be required to get ‘FREE’ testing to participating a airport or community testing location.

5. Florida

Ready to explore Miami Florida? To name a few, you can visit the Zoo Miami, Jungle Island or the Miami beach during Covid 19! The state of Florida has currently no travel restrictions in place however, they highly recommend to get vaccinated before travelling.

Public health advisory of Florida Department advised that all residents and visitors need to wear face coverings both indoors and outdoors and avoid the 3 C’s (closed spaces, crowded places and close-contact settings).

6. New Jersey

Best known for its famous Boardwalk, Atlantic City is one of the most popular coastal resorts in the United States, one of the tourist spots in New Jersey. At the same place is the Steel Pier an amusement for everyone.

Like the state of Florida, travel advisory in New Jersey is no longer in effect however, travelers should follow CDC’s recommendations for both vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers.

COVID-19 testing is available to everyone in New Jersey. You don’t need travel insurance and free testing is available.

7. The Grand Canyon, Arizona

Love the thrill and breath taking view? Public lands are open such as The Grand Canyon by the Colorado River in Arizona. This steep-sided canyon carved is visited by 5.5 million people each year.

Travelers travelling to or from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) or Tucson International Airport (TUS) will be required to wear a mask that covers mouth and nose. Arizona Office of Tourism states that fully vaccinated are the people who had vaccines after two weeks. Fully vaccinated travelers can do things pre pandemic but must still follow local business and workplace guidance regarding masks and physical distancing.

8. Boston, Massachusetts

Savoy the view while having breakfast, lunch or dinner at the the Boston Harbor and Whale Watching Cruises  . Especially at night where you can see the city’s skyline under the stars.

As the state’s advisory, if you are fully vaccinated, you can resume pre-pandemic activities including travel within the US. CDC’s recommendations for both vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers should be followed.

9. Seattle, Washington

Seattle is open! You can visit the Seattle Center & the Space Needle  . Take the elevator and be amazed at the 360-degree-view of the Needle Observation Deck that’s over looking the city, Elliott Bay, and Mt. Rainier. 

Travelers should observe and follow the local guidelines. Wearing a mask indoors that covers your mouth and nose is mandated statewide. The state requires all visitors to comply with the CDC’s recommendations for both vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers.

10. Chicago, Illinois

Stroll the city and experience the parks and museums of Chicago Illinois. You can spend quality time with your family or friends at Field Museum of Natural History  , Shedd Aquarium or Millennium Park .

Same as the first nine states, Chicago also reinstate the CDC’s recommendations for both vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers. The state has implemented that unvaccinated travelers are required to present a negative  Covid 19 test result no more than 72 hours prior to arrival in Chicago.
